This Mandarin Vodka Martini Cocktail is perfect for festive parties in the run up to Christmas.
It’s a delicious celebration of orange flavours; mandarin vodka, fresh orange juice and orange peel. It also includes sugar syrup, which is super easy to make. Once made you can keep it in the fridge ready for future cocktails. To make it you just need equal quantities or water and sugar. I used soft brown sugar for this recipe to add a bit of colour and caramel flavour. Heat the water and sugar in a saucepan over a low medium heat until the sugar has dissolved fully. Leave to cool, and then store in the fridge until it is needed.
My mandarin vodka was one of those tired airport purchases you make when your flight is delayed and you amuse yourself in duty free. All the coloured bottles were quite alluring, and I selected a special edition tropical vodka and a mandarin vodka. However I have seen mandarin vodka for sale in UK supermarkets as well, so you don’t need to wait for your next delirious duty free delayed flight purchase!
Its also a lovely cocktail to make an hour or so ahead, let those orange flavours combine. Just cover with cling film and store in the fridge until your guests arrive. Cheers!
Mandarin Vodka Martini Cocktail
Yield 2 Cocktails
- 1 Orange
- 50ml Mandarin Vodka
- 35ml Ginger Wine
- Lemon Juice
- Sugar Syrup
- Carefully peel two long strands of orange peel (I used a vegetable peeler, then cut the length of peel in half length ways). Slice two more short pieces of peel.
- In a cocktail shaker add the mandarin vodka, two short pieces of orange peel and the ginger wine. Shake well and leave for a few minutes.
- Add the juice of the orange, a handful of ice cubes, a squeeze of lemon and a good drizzle of sugar syrup and stir. Taste, and add more sugar syrup or lemon juice as required.
- Strain through a sieve into two martini glasses and serve immediately.
