It is international chocolate week, and Liam and I are excited to take full advantage of any reason to eat more chocolate! Like me though, Liam is not a huge fan of sweets. We are both more keen to salty snacks, but every once in a while we do get a hankering. I am very happy that this recipe was just the right amount chocolate.
This recipe was super fun for Liam because it was very hands on. I knew his dad had been working with him on cracking eggs, but I was really impressed with how well he did. He was so confident, and didn’t get any shell in the bowl!
If you are looking for a great desert then this is the one for you. With only six ingredients, it is easy and great for kids to put together.
Easy Chocolate Croissants Recipe
Warm, sweet, delicious nutella filled croissants.
Yields: 12 croissants
- 1 package of puff pastry
- 1/2-1 cup of Nutella
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon of water
- 1/2 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon of shortening
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Lightly sprinkle a flat surface with flour.
Lay puff pastry sheet flat on surface.
Using a rolling pin, gently roll out dough just until it is even and smooth.
Carefully use a pizza cutter or knife to cut pastry into three pieces, then again diagonally, making triangles.
Spoon a portion of Nutella onto the wider part of your pastry triangle, and spread a bit.
Next, roll the dough into a croissant shape, and place it on baking sheet.
Continue this with each triangle.
In a small bowl, whisk together egg and tablespoon of water.
Brush each croissant with the egg mixture.
Place baking sheet in oven and cook for twenty five minutes, or until pastry is light brown and flaky.
Remove from oven, and let croissants cool for at least 5 minutes.
Place chocolate chips and shortening in a microwave safe bowl, and microwave in 10 second increments until chocolate is completely melted. Make sure the chocolate and shortening are mixed together well.
Using a whisk or fork drizzle each croissant with a small amount of chocolate.
Serve warm, or store for up to three days.
